From the heart of Halifax, Nova Scotia there is a rumbling around the town that legendary Fantasy Football League star Booker Washington II, known as BW2, son Julius is ready to step foot in the FFL Cage for their first event on January 25. We had heard that Julius had signed a contract with the new MMA promotion earlier in the week, and expectations are high for the athletic young fighter, who has a family name to uphold.
"You know my dad is a legend around the world for the work that he did in the Fantasy Football League, he was beast out on that gridiron, and that's what I'm going to be in that cage." said Washington outside of the new Beast Mode Milita training facility, located in the heart of downtown Halifax. "I've been busting my ass training for this fight, because there is a different level of expectation when your last name is Washington in these parts." he said.
There was a lot of speculation that Washington was going to enter the Fantasy Football League draft this off-season, after a strong senior season at the University of Miami, where he lead the ACC in tackles and forced fumbles playing in the strong safety position, but to note that Washington struggled with triceps injuries his first three years in college. When asked about his decision to fight full time, Washington said:
"After I sat down with my father, we decided that at this point in my life, MMA is where its at. I've struggled over my entire college career to stay healthy, and now that I am I want to enjoy it. Football is a love of mine and I don't think I can ever rule out the chance of me entering a supplemental draft or something like that, but as of right now my heart, mind, and body is focused on fighting. I'm stronger and faster than I've ever been and I'm ready to represent Coach Stevenson and everyone involved with the Beast Mode Milita, no one can touch me right now."
One has to think that the falling through of the major television deal for the Fantasy Football League has to do with Washingtons decision. In this writers opinion, choosing between being a sure top five pick in the draft of a league that lacks stability, or sign a juicy contract with the FFL and its massive budget and soon to be monstrous exposure in the televison and pay per view markets, was an easy choice for Washington. Lastly, when asked about his debut, Washington added:
"I've been on the big stage my whole life, from peewee ball all the way to The U. I don't get nervous anymore, its my time and its my title for the taking man. I've been in the gym every day perfecting my craft and I dont think there is a man on this planet that can beat me, that's why they invented weight classes, so that I stay in my lane and don't beat everyone up, from the anorexic to the fat-asses. I'm ready to put a show on for the fans in Seattle, I hope the FFL is ready to go Primetime!"
Upon leaving the interview, a reporter asked if Washington was excited to be at the 'Home of the 12th man', to which he replied "it's soon gonna be known as the home of the 15th man, cause when I'm done beating 3 motherf**kers brain dead, they'll be out of a job and permanently working there as a drooling door greater!"
